The Kahbang Festival Announces Full Event Schedule

The KahBang Festival 2011 is proud to announce its full event lineup.  The third annual festival will be held August 5th – 13th, and will feature over 50 bands and performers, 20 films, and numerous art exhibits across venues in downtown Bangor, and on the city’s historic waterfront.  Music headliners will include My Morning Jacket, Lupe Fiasco, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, and Chromeo.  In addition to KahBang’s strong music focus, the festival will continue its commitment to the best in art and film, fully transforming Bangor into an entertainment and cultural destination during the festival’s span.  Festival and camping passes are on sale now at www.kahbang.com!

THE KAHBANG MUSIC FESTIVAL

KahBang’s closing weekend (August 12th & 13th) will culminate the festival’s music portion, featuring 3 stages along the Bangor Waterfront.  In addition to KahBang’s main stage performers, KahBang is proud to present its partnership with Dispatch Magazine and the new “ME Stage” featuring some of Maine’s best upcoming musicians.

KICKOFF CONCERT IN WEST MARKET SQUARE
On August 6th, KahBang’s music offerings will begin with a day of music and art in Bangor’s West Market Square.  Headlining the show will be KahBang alums and fan favorites The Gay Blades, with supporting performances from The Vanityites, Dean Ford, The Class Machine, The Okay Win, and The 220’s.  This event is free and open to the public, with KahBang VIP passholders enjoying a special viewing area and beer garden.  Live music will last from 2-10pm, with late night events happening in downtown clubs and bars.  
 
KAHBANG @ NIGHT
KahBang has partnered with downtown Bangor restaurants and bars to provide non-stop musical entertainment during the festival’s nine day span.  Each night will showcase intimate performances by musical acts in venues across the city.  For a complete listing of KahBang @ Night performers, visit http://www.kahbang.com/music/kahbang-at-night.  
 
FILM
The film portion of The KahBang Festival 2011 will focus on music documentaries, emerging filmmakers, and comedy.  Films will be presented at the historic Bangor Opera House.

Out of Competition Films
This year’s KahBang Film Festival brings a new selection of out of competition films in unique categories.  
 
·         Murray vs. Murray: We’re placing Actor/Comedian/Philanthropist and overall good guy Bill Murray into a cage match with himself. 3 films enter, one film leaves. There can only be one… Bill Murray.  Featuring Rushmore, Groundhog Day, and Quick Change.

·         So Bad It’s Good: Once you start watching them, for some reason you can’t stop.  These are the worst films ever made.  Featuring Roadhouse(starring Patrick Swayze), Over the Top (starring Sylvester Stallone), and Starship Troopers.

ART
Formed in January of 2011, KahBang Arts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the discovery, development and support of independent artists. Through its programs, KahBang Arts seeks to inspire artists from the United States and around the world, and to promote their work to audiences worldwide.
Kaleidoscope Gallery is an 18,000 square foot space taken over by KahBang Arts and located in the center of Bangor, Maine’s historic Downtown district. Selected artists will display works of fine art, sculpture, screen-printing, painting, installations, and mixed media, metal and recycled material sculpture, photography, an interactive Polaroid exhibition, graphic design and experimental video art. In addition to its gallery, KahBang will curate a Sculpture Park on the Bangor Waterfront the weekend of August 12 for festivalgoer’s to view and enjoy.

CAMPING
The KahBang Festival 2011 is proud to announce the addition of a campsite to its diverse festival offerings.  Implemented due to customer demand, festival attendees will be able to camp Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night (August 11th-13th) during KahBang’s music weekend.  The campsite itself will feature its own stage, and will provide around-the-clock entertainment for campers.
 
Amenities include:
·         Capacity for 1900 campers
·         Shuttle Service from site to festival grounds and area nightlife
·         Local facilities with bars, bowling, arcade, and mini-golf
·         On-site music & bonfire

ABOUT KAHBANG
Established in 2009, the all volunteer-run KahBang started as a one-day concert event on the Bangor Waterfront and expanded in 2010 to 9 days with the inclusion of film and art festivals, as well as the KahBang @ Night, fully integrating the City of Bangor’s concert and nightlife infrastructure into a non-stop showcase of music, art, and film for thousands of attendees.
