“Am I The Only One” Also Hits No. One in Canada
Nashville, TN – Aug. 22, 2011 – Multi-Platinum singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley’s “Am I The Only One” takes the No. one position on both the Billboard Country Singles and the Country Aircheck/Mediabase charts this week.  The fan-favorie track also spent last week in the top spot on the Billboard Canada Country chart.  The track becomes Bentley’s eighth career No. one hit as a singer and a songwriter and is the lead single from his upcoming sixth Capitol Nashville studio project, scheduled for release in early 2012.

“‘Am I The Only One’ has been the perfect bridge between the ‘Ridge’ album and my next project,” says Bentley.  “I wanted to give radio and fans a fun party song to set the tone for summer, and I am so grateful that they helped take it all the way to No. one.  Now we’re ready to start peeling back more layers of the new album and get geared up for the Country & Cold Cans tour!”

Bentley announced last week that he will kick off the first leg of his Country & Cold Cans Tour beginning Oct. 6 in Lacrosse, WI.  Special guests Jerrod Niemann and Eli Young Band will open for Bentley on the 22 city run that wraps in Denver, CO on Nov. 19. DBTV will continue to give fans all the behind the scenes action from the tour atwww.dierks.com.

“Am I The Only One” is the lead single off his upcoming sixth Capitol Nashville studio project.  Bentley’s new album follows in the footsteps of his critically acclaimed UP ON THE RIDGE, which earned Album of the Year nominations at the ACM, CMA and GRAMMY Awards this year. His previous five albums have sold over five million copies, earned 10 GRAMMY nominations, have spawned seven No. one hits (What Was I Thinkin,” “Come A Little Closer,”  “Settle For A Slowdown,”  “Every Mile A Memory,”  “Free and Easy (Down The Road I Go),” “Feel That Fire,” “Sideways”) and 12 Top 10 hits.

Description: During a career that stretches back to the mid-’80s,Matthew Sweet has never followed trends, though his landmark 1991 album Girlfriend was responsible for starting one—its bone-dry, caterwauling sonics opening up a wild and picturesque new terrain for restless singer/songwriters to inhabit and explore. Two decades later, Sweet has once again swung for the fences—and connected—with theboldly experimental yet still deeply personal Modern Art.

Misfits Announce First New Album in Nearly a Decade: The Devil’s Rain, Out October 4th on Misfits Records

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on August 22, 2011

Band Kicks Off Lengthy US Tour in September

Punk icons the Misfits return with their long-awaited, first full-length release of all-new, original material in nearly a decade. Rooted in the horror and sci-fi themes their audience craves, The Devil’s Rain will be released October 4th on Misfits Records.  It was produced by Ed Stasium, who’s credits include the Ramones’ Road to Ruin and Too Tough to Die, as well as the Misfits’ 1999 release Famous Monsters.

The Devil’s Rain showcases a jaw-dropping, two-panel front/back cover painting featuring the rebirth of the band’s iconic “Fiend” mascot in an epic setting rendered by Arthur Suydam (known for his immensely popular work on the Marvel Zombies series, among others). The band’s current lineup – consisting of founding member Jerry Only on vocals/bass, Black Flag alum Dez Cadena, and drummer Eric “Chupacabra” Arce – will kick off an extensive US tour in September.

In 1977, at the dawn of the punk movement the Misfits set out to make an impression, and created a legacy that has truly withstood the test of time. Immortalizing black and white B horror films in their music, the Misfits developed a ghoulish and totally unique persona of their own that’s consistently evolved over the years, while remaining true to its roots. The band’s iconic “Fiend Skull” logo has become a staple in pop culture, and an instantly recognizable symbol worldwide.

Bands across the spectrum of rock have covered their material, including Metallica, Guns ‘n’ Roses, My Chemical Romance and countless others citing the ‘Fits as a key influence. Boasting a massive catalog of music old and new, the Misfits are generating more interest today than ever before. With new releases charting higher than all priors, and constant touring around the globe, their diverse demographic and legion of “fiends” (as their fans are affectionately known), multiplies daily.

For both fans of their classics and newcomers discovering the band for the very first time, The Devil’s Rain embodies the ferocity and melody that have made the Misfits omnipresent and immortal. One thing is certain, The Misfits are here to stay and every day is Halloween.

Peter Gabriel To Release NEW BLOOD Album October 11th

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on August 22, 2011

New York, NY (August 16, 2011) –  On the heels of a limited sold-out U.S. summer tour that earned Peter Gabriel some of the best reviews of his career, he will release a full-length CD New Blood on October 11, 2011 distributed by EMI.  A continuum to his recent Scratch My Back release, the New Blood album will feature some of Gabriel’s biggest hits from his prodigious career, reconstructed and re-imagined with orchestral arrangements and recorded live with the New Blood Orchestra.  Gabriel hand-selected the songs and enlisted the help of longtime collaborator John Metcalfe for the arrangements and Ben Foster as conductor of the 46-piece New Blood Orchestra.

This treatment is applied with painstaking attention to detail and stunning effect on songs such as ‘Mercy Street’, ‘Digging In The Dirt’, ‘Don’t Give Up’, ‘San Jacinto’ and Gabriel’s all-time classic ‘Solsbury Hill’.   The intention was not to simply rework Gabriel’s biggest songs, but rather, find songs that were enhanced by the massed strings, brass, woodwind and percussion.  Don’t Give Up – now with Norwegian singer Ane Brun’s vulnerable, cracking vocals replacing those of Kate Bush – rides a stirring, uplifting coda. Where the twinkle of San Jacinto was originally supplied by loops from a Fairlight sampler, piano and bows now provide the otherworldly magic. But probably the most extraordinary reinterpretation is that of Rhythm Of The Heat where Metcalf has recast the original’s extended African drum jam into a dizzying, swirling orchestral maelstrom.

And in front of orchestra, taking centre stage when necessary, retreating into the shadows when not, is Peter’s rich voice. Retaining its trademark emotive power, it returns to lyrics written 20 or 30 years ago, reinvesting them with new meaning and heightened poignancy.

“The orchestra provides different dimensions to the music that weren’t there initially,” confirms Peter. “Rock artists work slowly in studios, building up layer by layer, and one of the great, powerful advantages of an orchestra is all these musicians playing at one moment with all sorts of colors and personalities.”

The album will be available as a standard single-disc and digital download.  A special 2-CD version will include the standard album plus an added disc of instrument versions.  There will additionally be a heavyweight vinyl version available November 8th that is released with a bonus 7” featuring “A Quiet Moment” and “Solsbury Hill.   The filmed concert New Blood – Live in London, recorded October 23rd, 2010 at the Hammersmith Apollo will be available in 3D, blu-ray and standard DVD on October 25th.

Steely Dan plays The Louisville Palace

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on August 19, 2011

Steely Dan @ THe Louisville Palace

Steely Dan brought it’s “Shuffle Diplomacy Twenty ElevenTour” to a sold out The Louisville Palace on Wednesday evening. The air was filled with excited fans as well the sidewalk leading to the the Palace with fans desperately trying to purchase seats. The show was the toughest ticket to hit the town since My Morning Jacket’s cd release show earlier this year.

For most, it was the first chance to see the members of the class of 2001 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Steely Dan has sold over 30 million albums since releasing their first album , “Can’t Buy A Thrill” in 1972. The band was founded by two Bard College students, Donald Fagenand Walter Becker who has filled the band with session musicians through their history. The duo are musical geniuses who have selected many top session players such as Jeff Skunk Baxter, Michael McDonald, and Jeff Porcaro all who went on to successful music careers.

Fagen and Becker have always been brilliant in the recording studio, I questioned their ability to reproduce their music in a live setting. From the opening notes of “Your Gold Teeth” followed by “Aja” and an outstanding version of “Black Friday”, left little doubt that they could not only duplicate their studio performance but raise the music beyond the perfection of their albums.

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were like conductors. They watched and listened to every member of backing artists,  The Mile High Big Band. Each musician played to please the trained ears of Becker and Fagen. The result was a wall of spectacular sound so beautiful that even Donald Fagen could not contain himself. He seemed completely absorbed in the music dancing and moving with the beat while playing keyboards. His voice was strong and on key throughout the performance.

The backup singers, “ The Embassay Brats “ gave him a break singing a beautiful version of “ Dirty Work” and filled in all of the famous backing vocals such as the night’s highlight on “Babylon Sisters”

Walter Becker seemed content to stay out of the limelight and insure the band was on target with every note. He allowed guitarist Jon Herington to handle much of the solo work duplicating and surpassing the original leads perfectly. His play on “Reeling In The Years” brought chills.

The two hour show was filled with their classics. The final songs “Peg”, “My Old School”, and encore “Kid Charlemagne” brought the house down. It was as loud as The Palace or any Louisville venue has been for quite some time.

I overheard one fan say as he left the building, “How awesome to see a show and love every song of it!” What is more awesome is to hear the songs performed at their musical peak!
