Peter Gabriel New Blood North American Tour Dates Announced

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on March 31, 2011

“Tech aspects were incredible, especially sound.” — VARIETY

New York, NY (March 28, 2011) — Peter Gabriel announced today that following hugely successful shows last year in Los Angeles and New York, he will take his stunning concert experience to 12 North American cities with the New Blood tour beginning Friday, June 10 in Berkeley, CA.  After receiving astounding critical acclaim for the 2010 shows, Gabriel will perform classics from his deep catalogue including hits from his multiplatinum album “So“, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, all arranged with his New Blood Orchestra.  The songs will be arranged by long-time Gabriel collaborator John Metcalf and the New Blood Orchestra will be conducted by Ben Foster. The shows precede the highly anticipated album from Peter Gabriel with the New Blood Orchestra later this year, also featuring these classic hits in reinterpreted orchestral arrangements.

Peter Gabriel first came to international prominence with the success of Genesis, a band that he co-founded while still at school. Since leaving Genesis in 1975, his recording career has included seven studio albums, film soundtracks for ‘Birdy’, ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ and ‘Rabbit Proof Fence’ as well as live and compilation albums. His wider musical career has included multiple Grammy Awards, the creation of the Real World record label, and the creation of the now global WOMAD festival.

Peter Gabriel co-founded the human rights organization Witness.org in 1989 and in 2007 the Elders.org was launched by Nelson Mandela, which was founded by Peter Gabriel and Sir Richard Branson.  In 2006, Peter Gabriel was awarded the prestigious Man of Peace title by The Nobel Peace Laureates. He has also engaged in a wide variety of tech-based businesses throughout a variety of creative industries.

FOO FIGHTERS TO RELEASE “FOO FIGHTERS BACK AND FORTH” FILM

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on March 31, 2011

NEW ALBUM WASTING LIGHT IN STORES APRIL 12TH

TICKETING INFORMATION AT OFFICIAL SITE, WWW.FOOFIGHTERSFILM.COM

Back and Forth” chronicles the 16 year history of the Foo Fighters: from the band’s very first songs created as cassette demos Dave Grohl recorded during his tenure as Nirvana’s drummer, through its ascent to their Grammy-winning, multi-platinum, arena and stadium headlining status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

Produced by Nigel Sinclair (“No Direction Home: Bob Dylan”, “Amazing Journey the Story of the Who”, “The Last Play at Shea”) of Exclusive Media Group’s Spitfire Pictures, and produced and directed by Oscar(r) and Emmy(r) winner James Moll, “Back and Forth” culminates with the making of the band’s new album Wasting Light: a process in which the band pushed itself forward by going fully back to basics and recording in Grohl’s garage completely on analog tape. No computers, no software – just a band recording an album to tape in a garage. The new record also marks the Foos’ first full-length effort with legendary producer Butch Vig, with whom Grohl worked on Nirvana’s classic album Nevermind.

Back and Forth,” will be followed by a live 3D performance from the band, playing their new album Wasting Light front to back. Check out a trailer for “Back and Forth” to get a sneak peak. For ticketing info and release date on the movie, check out the band’s official site for the film, www.foofightersfilm.com. Also, fans can follow the original White Limo on Twitter and Tumblr, as it drives across country blasting the new record.  Wasting Light hits stores and online April 12th!

Joe Bonamassa at The Taft Theater, Cincinnati , Ohio

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on March 22, 2011

Joe Bonamassa

As Joe Bonamassa grows his reputation as one of the world’s greatest guitar players, he has evolved into a charismatic blues-rock star and singer-songwriter of stylistic depth and emotional resonance. After  twenty years of touring, the thirty two year old  is a seasoned veteran who is comfortable in connecting with his concert audiences. Having just released his 11th album.”Dust Bowl”, Bonamassa has built quite an arsenal of powerful music .

2009 was a big year for Bonamassa. He was awarded the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at the U.K.’s prestigious Classic Rock Roll of Honor Awards and Classic Rock magazine has said, “They’re calling him the future of blues, but they’re wrong – Joe Bonamassa is the present; so fresh and of his time that he almost defines it.” He was also named Best Blues Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine’s 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards for the third consecutive year. Guitar Player writer Matt Blackett has said, “He’s an old soul, and that comes through in his bends, vibrato, singing voice, and note choices, which – which each passing year – get more restrained and refined.”

In May ’09, he played to a sold out crowd at London’s Royal Albert Hall, arguably the most prestigious concert venue in the world. During the show, Bonamassa’s hero, Eric Clapton, joined him on stage for a joint- performance of Clapton’s hit “Further On Up The Road.” London’s The Independent said about the show, “The man has arrived, and there’s no turning back.” Shortly after, Bonamassa released a 2-DVD live set – Joe Bonamassa – Live From The Royal Albert Hall – which captures the night in full. Guitar Edge gave it five stars and also said, “It is the wallop of his emotional expression, fueled by the rocking energy he derives from that trans-Atlantic connection and driven by his devastating technical ability, that elevates him about his peers and makes him a certifiable blues guitar hero and the face of his blues generation.”

When he began Saturday’s show at The Taft Theater with “Cradle Rock” it was evident that he had full control over his music and the audience of 2,500. His strong voice and powerful guitar captivated the audience as he performed his first three numbers spotlighting his lighting quick guitar solos.

He seemed surprised as he addressed the crowd “Good evening Cincinnati”! “I first played here ten years ago in a place called Bogarts”. A big cheer came from the fans, “Don’t act like you were there, you weren’t I can recognize all ten people who where there”!  “I am so pleased to see 2,500 of you here now”!

Bonamassa’s mixed several song from the new album with music from his last five albums, which all debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues charts. The show was highlighted by his excellent voice and guitar on “Sloe Gin” and one of the best renditions of “If Heartaches were Nickels” I have seen live.

The entire show was a guitar lovers dream. With talented performances like this 2,500 seat venues will not hold his next visit.

Horseshoe Southern Indiana Casino, Pavilion and Restaurants Reopen

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on March 17, 2011

Elizabeth, IN (March 15, 2011, 3:00 pm EDT) – The Casino and Pavilion at Horseshoe Southern Indiana will reopen to customers at 10:00 am tomorrow, Wednesday March 16, 2011.  In addition to re-opening the casino, the Paula Deen Buffet, Jack Binions Steakhouse, JBs Café and Legends Restaurants will also re-open.  Employees will soon begin receiving notification that they are to begin reporting to work at 5:00 am on Wednesday the 16th to start working on the procedures and steps necessary to re-open the property to customers.  Customers will begin receiving notification of the casino reopening via phone, email, internet and social media.

“We couldn’t be more excited to re-open the casino and pavilion so that we can be back together again with our wonderful employees and loyal Horseshoe customers.  We’ve been in touch with our employees and customers daily since closing.  Everyone has been so interested in when we will re-open” said Eileen Moore, the General Manager at Horseshoe.

“We quickly gained approval for our decision to pay employees their wages plus tips and benefits for the duration of the closure.  This is just one of the reasons we were recently named as a 2011 Top Places to Work by The Courier Journal.  We didn’t want our employees to worry about the impact of this closure on their personal lives.  I am so proud to work for a company that has the fortitude to make these decisions so quickly” said Moore.  Caesars Entertainment, formerly Harrah’s Entertainment, has a history of paying employees during closures due to Force Majeure .   For example, the company paid employees when its New Orleans and Biloxi casinos were closed due to Hurricane Katrina.

The hotel at Horseshoe will remain closed until the river reaches the level at which it is safe to allow employees and customers back into the Hotel.

Louisville goes Gaga over Lady Gaga and the “The Monster Ball Tour”

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on March 14, 2011

Lady Gaga

Saturday evening the KFC Yum Center

Lady Gaga

hosted Lady Gaga’s “The Monster Ball Tour”. The elaborate production thrilled its  diverse audience who dressed for the event in everything from glam outfits to bubble wrap dresses. Many of the sold out crowd wore face paint and dressed in Gaga style for the show.

Lady Gaga played nearly two hours changing outfits and stage sets frequently throughout the performance. She interacted with her fans during and between songs expressing her opinions on diversity, sex, bullying while always encouraging them to get out of your seats and dance.

The tight photography restrictions which limited photographers to only songs six, “Fame” and seven, Love Game”. We were required to stay with our guide and not allowed to watch the first portion of the show until we finished with the photography.

I did watch the remainder of the performance, Lady Gaga has musical talent and a great cast of dancers and musicians. The stage effects and costume changes were a mix of Glam, Mardi Gras, Strip Club and Broadway production all combined.

It was a celebration party, lead by the new Pop Queen who repeatedly told her fans

” Everyone is different, you have to make the best of it and wear your mask with pride”

At least for this night, most fans did.

Bright Eyes

The People’s Key – the band’s seventh studio album – is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2007’s acclaimed Cassadaga. Since 2006 the once revolving cast of Bright Eyes players has settled around permanent members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nathaniel Walcott, with additional musicians joining them in the studio and on tour. Fully realized and bursting with charisma, The People’s Key is an assured and accomplished album, artfully arranged and filled with the engaging and mesmeric songwriting for which Oberst is renowned. Bright Eyes’ success snowballed in early 2005 when the simultaneous release of the sister albums “I’m Wide Awake”, “It’s Morning and Digital Ash In A Digital Urn” saw the Nebraskans hurled into the limelight and the Billboard Charts. To say that the band became a household name would be an overstatement but for a few months they seemed ubiquitous; from magazine covers to late night talk shows, they were name-checked by everyone from sports casters to country stars while newspapers and magazines debated the clumsy “new Dylan” tag. Conor Oberst has spent much of the last few years recording and touring with friends and musicians – The Mystic Valley Band
