Eric Clapton announces Crossroads Fest 2010
(February 10, 2010) – Often credited as being one of the all time greatest guitarists and known amongst his peers as one of the all time greatest collaborators, the ultimate Clapton collaboration will take place June 26, 2010. For one day only, Clapton will gather the past, present and future of guitar music onto one stage for an incredible full day musical event. Announced today, the third Crossroads Guitar Festival, scheduled for June 26, 2010 at Toyota Park in Chicago, will be a cornerstone of this year’s summer music festival season. Fans should note that gates open at 10am. All profits from the Festival will benefit The Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a treatment and education facility founded by Clapton for chemically dependent persons. The Festival will be presented by T-Mobile myTouch.
Since its inception, Clapton’s vision for the Crossroads Guitar Festival has been to create an event where his friends and contemporaries can have fun and perform together for the benefit of a good cause. This year’s Festival will feature a full day of musical performances with once-in-a-lifetime guitar collaborations. Known as pioneers in their field, the roster of artists spans old and new, from The Allman Brothers Band to BB King to John Mayer (anticipated guest list below). The audience can expect unrivaled entertainment, brilliant guitar work, surprise guests and impromptu jams that are the hallmarks of these performers.
The first Crossroads Guitar Festival, in June 2004 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, was an unprecedented collection of guitar icons from blues, rock and contemporary music. The sold-out show was chronicled in a 2-disc DVD that has since gone on to become one of the world’s top-selling music DVD’s, recently achieving the 8x platinum mark in the United States alone. The Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007 was the second such concert by Clapton and was also staged at Toyota Park in July of 2007 and was filmed for a second DVD that met similar acclaim and achieved multi-platinum status.
“The Crossroads Festival is the realization of a dream for me, to gather a group of amazingly talented musicians to perform on one stage,” said Clapton. “The Crossroads performers are all musicians I admire and respect.”
Tickets for the Crossroads Guitar Festival will go on sale to the public on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10am Central Time (11am EST) via www.ticketmaster.com or Ticketmaster phone charge at 800-745-3000 or Ticketmaster retail outlets or the Toyota Park Box Office. Former MMJ guitarist releases new album
THE RAVENNA COLT
SLIGHT SPELL
After conceiving the project over a decade ago, former My Morning Jacket guitarist Johnny Quaid is finally releasing the dreamlike, southern-flavored debut effort by The Ravenna Colt. The album, titled , Slight Spell, is now available through Removador Recordings and Solutions, the label Quaid recently co-founded with MMJ frontman Yim Yames.
After six years as a part of MMJ, Louisville, KY native Quaid parted amicably with the band in 2004 and headed off to California. Eventually Quaid headed back east and reacquainting himself with his roots. Fittingly, the music he has written as The Ravenna Colt reflects his style in Americana with a hint of cosmic breeze that emanates from California.
Opening track “South of Ohio,’ points to this when Quaid wonders “I lost my drawl in California / was there ever one at all?” He reveals himself to be an individual who meditates on the deep connection he has with his hometown as well as one interested in venturing outward for new experiences.
The Ravenna Colt currently includes Phil Carlson, J. Brent Stuart and Daniel T. Mohler as members, but the group has always been a shape-shifting entity with the only constant force being Quaid at the helm. This collective-like quality translates to the music as well, which has beautifully amorphous feel. The songs on Slight Spell have definitive cores, but ones that seem capable of adapting to various musicians and arrangements. Quaid has the soul of a troubadour. One can picture him with nothing but an acoustic guitar strapped to his back, traveling from town to town to share his music and his adventures.
Louisville for Lovers/ An Affair to Remember with Yim Yames

Yim Yames, ( Jim James) frontman for My Morning Jacket and Monsters of Folk, joined with Bootsy Ann to make the Louisville for Lovers Valentines Day event a very special evening. The event held at the Seelbach Hotel’s Rathskellar called for cocktail attire and was limited to only 300 people. The crowd split between local people,Yames family members and fans who traveled from Houston, Texas, Ohio ,Michigan and Illinois, witnessed an incredible performance.
Yames mixed his music playing love songs from the past such as “Just the two of us”along with acoustic versions of hits from My Morning Jacket and Monsters of Folk. It a first class event and bound to be one of the top performances of the year.
I was proud to be one of the few photographers allowed in the event. Major magazines such as Spin, and Paste sent photographers from Texas to cover this night. Thank you Production Simple for this honor.

My Morning Jacket announces tour dates
My Morning Jacket Hit the Road With The
Preservation Hall Jazz Band For Jazzfest,
Southeastern US Dates
It’s been almost a full year, but the wait is finally over. My Morning Jacket are ready to bring their electrifying live show back on the road. The guys will make their way around the Southeastern United States this Spring, including a performance at this year’s Jazzfest in New Orleans. MMJ are also excited to both try something new with their choice for an opening act, and bring some of the spirit of NOLA along with them. The band is honored that the historic Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be supporting them on the run.
The connection with the PHJB originated in the Spring of 2009 when MMJ frontman Jim James was invited to sing with them at their home turf, New Orleans’ legendary Preservation Hall. James recorded two songs with the band: “St. James Infirmary” and “Louisiana Fairytale.” The tracks will appear on the bands forthcoming album, PRESERVATION: An Album To Benefit Preservation Hall & The Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program, out February 16th.
“When I got the invitation to go to the legendary Preservation Hall – where SO much of the music we now know and love on this earth found its early roots – I did not waste a minute,” James reminisces. “Getting to sing while the guys played with such glorious bursts of sound – all live in that holy room with the ghosts and garbage trucks crankin’ along – was an experience I’ll never forget.”
The PHJB’s leader Ben Jaffe shares his memory of playing with James: “I couldn’t have imagined Jim fitting in any better with the guys at Preservation Hall. Creating music is not a science. There is no tried and true formula. There is an unspoken bond amongst musicians. One that exists in the notes we choose. Jim’s like our long lost cousin coming home for the first time.”
MMJ Tour Dates With The Preservation Hall Jazz Band:
04/20: Birmingham, AL @ Alabama Theater
04/21: Nashville, TN @ Municipal Auditorium
04/23: Atlanta, GA @ Chastain Park
04/24: New Orleans, LA @ Jazzfest

Halfway to Forecastle
Halfway to Forecastle was an incredible event filled with constant stimulation for your eyes and ears. Held at the Point, J. K McKnight confirmed his visionary ability to push the area’s music scene, turning Louisville into the big city dance club for the night.
The venue resembled an amusement park fun house complete with colored lights, mirrors, wall videos, props, and neon lights.
The mostly college age crowd came attired in what could best be described as Mardi Gras fashion. Although I am not familiar with this type of music L.A. Riots put together a steady stream of sounds with danceable beats. It was very interesting.
Kid Sister followed with a very entertaining set that pushed the crowd to even a higher level of dance. The show was to continue on until 3:00a.m. Between photographing the event, working my way through the crowds with my eyes and ears pushed to new heights of stimulation, I was zapped of my energy and couldn’t make it past 1:00 a.m.
I pride myself on giving every type of music a chance. Would I do it again? Yes, It was great fun! Even if I was most of the crowds parent’s age!

Members of Gov’t Mule and Widespread Panic renew Stockholm Syndrome
| Stockholm Syndrome is made up of an all-star cast. When Widespread Panic bass player Dave Schools and acclaimed singer/songwriter Jerry Joseph of the Jackmormons decided to collaborate, each initially thought the side project would be a cool, if temporary, change of pace. With one studio album released, a new studio album set for release in early 2010 and multiple tours behind them, Stockholm Syndrome has transcended being just a side project. Stockholm Syndrome is a band.
The band’s unusual choice for a name, Stockholm Syndrome, refers to the psychological phenomenon in which a hostage bonds with his kidnappers. It seemed an apt moniker for the pair’s somewhat convoluted relationship. Now all Schools and Joseph needed was a band.
They put together their “Dream Team” including Eric McFadden (a San Francisco-based guitarist who has worked with Keb Mo’, Les Claypool and George Clinton’s P-Funk All Stars), Danny Louis (an Upstate NY based keyboard virtuoso widely known for his role in Gov’t Mule and Cheap Trick) and drummer Wally Ingram (an L.A.-based drummer who has worked with Jackson Browne, Sheryl Crow, Tracy Chapman and David Lindley). All three musicians were on board and are now back for more live dates, an in-store recording for release and a pending studio album.
Stockholm Syndrome is ready to serve up its potent brew of provocative songs and thrilling, genre-transcending musicianship to worldwide audiences. Schools is already contemplating the future, “We’ll take it as far as it wants to go. I think that everyone is really enjoying playing together…it ceased to be a recording project and became a band.”
There aren’t many bands with the ability to hit the ground running the way Stockholm Syndrome did. And now that they’re launched, they show no sign of slowing down soon.
