Jim James Announces North American Tour, Louisville 2/17
“The record is arguably the most adventurous and nakedly emotional thing James has done”
– Stereogum
Jim James is thrilled to announce his full US tour in support of his forthcoming debut solo album Regions Of Light And Sound Of God, out February 5 on ATO Records. “Hello friends!” says Jim. “I have put together a special band of some of my oldest pals to help bring this album to life on the road! We are very excited about it and cant wait to bring it to light! See ya out on the open road!” The nine songs on this album resist easy categorization, grasping influence of old-school R&B to island folk to hip-hop, each flickering into focus and then disappear throughout the album. From the hazy space-funk of the opening “State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U.)” to the chiming, operatic pop of “A New Life,” Regions of Light and Sound of God is complex but cohesive, intimate and hypnotic where My Morning Jacket might turn more wide-screen and epic. Today, Jim is revealing the first listen of the album on NPR.
General on sales for the tour begin this weekend while Roll Call members (My Morning Jacket fan club) have first access pre-sales this Wednesday at 12noon EST. For the duration of the tour, a percentage of proceeds of every ticket will benefit Cancer Research Hospital and Treatment Center, City Of Hope. Along with his upcoming tour dates, Jim will also be performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on February 4th alongside The Roots. The following day (February 5th) he will return to Jimmy Fallon, sitting in for the entire show as a guest performer.
“The album knew what it wanted to be,” says James. “The songs would tell me what they wanted to be, and I just had to search around and find those sounds to bring them into this world.”

“Best Daytime Performance”- The News Record (UC)

“Favorite act on Saturday was The Sundresses, who killed it to a crowd full of dancing people at the AliveOne stage. If you’re into Jack White’s Third Man label, you need to check out The Sundresses. ASAP. You can actually hear the smoke and whiskey in the rumbling bass and beats.” http://thisisthelonelyhouse.com/tag/the-sundresses/
——————
“…a three-piece who re-invigorate the stagnant art of great guitar music in thrilling new ways….For far too long, the sweet sound of the six-string has been misappropriated by charlatans whose intentions and abilities fail to do it justice….The Sundresses are here to reverse this downward trend. Combining punk, blues, rockabilly, dark country flavours and 1930’s swing, with a hefty dose of acerbically arch, politicised lyricism, they don’t do what everyone else does, and that’s what makes them great….These genii represent the rebirth of the Great American Band.” www.phonovault.com/?p=1021
“Boozy, shambling and often sexy strut….more addictive than crack cocaine” -Mike Breen, Citybeat
“Gut bucket syncopation, bluesy swagger, all couched in a saturated late night mood” -David Lynch, Austin Chronicle
“Demented, electric shock therapy garage punk that rings with angular old-style rockabilly guitar riffs. Sounds like the Rolling Stones if they had come from Kentucky and were addicted to meth” -Cleveland.com SXSW 2006

The newly added date will mark the legendary singer/songwriter/poet’s first ever Louisville performance. Promoted by AEG Live, the tour celebrates Cohen’s highly acclaimed twelfth studio album, Old Ideas, which debuted at #1 across the globe, and is the highest charting album of his career.
Tickets for the Louisville date will go on sale Friday, January 18th at 10 a.m., and can be purchased at the Palace Theatre Box Office, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000. Night after night, Leonard Cohen and his band of expert musicians have earned five-star reviews and left audiences spellbound. MTV Hive recounted that “Cohen sprinted to the mic at the beginning of the evening, and skipped offstage at the end, and in between, delivered a reminder of everything that has made him the icon and legend that he is.” MSN gave a glowing assessment that “There are great ones, and then there are the ones where it seems the whole outside world has disappeared and nothing exists but what’s happening between artist and audience. This was one of those, full of goose-bump moments.” Los Angeles Times reported that “Cohen’s generosity was real—nearly 30 songs worth—and it confirmed his place as one of the most accomplished songwriters of the past four decades.” Variety was enthralled by how “he captivated, charmed and conquered a sold-out audience, hardly seeming to break a sweat in the process,” and Fort Worth Star-Telegram was equally captivated: “Seeing someone of Cohen’s stature continue to draw so much evident joy from sharing his art with an adoring audience restores a person’s faith in music.” Rolling Stone remarked that Cohen “left no doubt that he’s as vital–both physically and as a cultural asset–as he’s ever been,” and Oakland Tribune simply stated “All hail Leonard Cohen.”
Cohen’s current band features Sharon Robinson and the Webb Sisters (background vocals), Roscoe Beck (musical director & bass), Neil Larsen (keyboards, Hammond B3, accordion), Mitch Watkins (guitar), Javier Mas (bandurria, laud, archilaud, 12-string acoustic guitar), Rafael Gayol (drums, percussion), Alexandru Bublitchi (violin).
The “Old Ideas World Tour 2012” follows Cohen’s triumphant 2008-2010 world tour – his first in 15 years.
