George Jones at Horseshoe Casino

George Jones At Horseshoe Casino
George Jones did show up at Horseshoe Casino Southern Indiana on Saturday as part of his “Grand Tour”, his final tour of his 50 year road career.
It was a bittersweet night for the sold out audience. Jone’s the #2 best-charting country artist of all time, with a staggering list of hit singles in every decade since the ’50s. The Beaumont, Texas native also has 143 Top 40 hits to his name, has received two Grammy Awards, was a 2008 Kennedy Center Honor recipient, is a Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, was presented with a GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award this year and holds a National Medal of Arts. At 80, Jones continues to be an active country music superstar, headlining dozens of concerts each year.
The night began with four songs by the Jones Boys, the country legend was introduced ” George is not feeling so well but he is here to give you his all”.
A weak 81 one year old, Jones took the stage to loud cheers and sang his greatest hits with great effort. His voice was very weak but there were short periods of strength during a few of his songs. This was a night that the man famous for not showing up at shows over the years, gave it his all. He labored to keep his breath at times, and had to work hard to provide his fans with this show. There were times that the audience encouragement was louder than Jones himself.
His solid backing band kept the pace going while an appreciative Jones did his best to smile thank his fans and make the best of his condition.
It did not seem to faze the loyal audience who cheered him on throughout the night. It was clear the love they had for a legend who provide some many memories through the years.
For the most part the show was very good if you could overlook the struggles the legend had to deal with his health.

DAVE GROHL DIRECTORIAL DEBUT, FEATURE DOCUMENTARY SOUND CITY TO PREMIERE AT SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
(December 3, 2012, Los Angeles, CA) – Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana announced today that his directorial debut, the feature documentary film, SOUND CITY about the infamous recording studio in Van Nuys, California will have its premiere screening at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Grohl and select artists from the film will be in attendance at this year’s Festival. More information can be found at www.soundcitymovie.com.
“As a first time director, I am humbled to be able to share my passion for songwriting and storytelling with this incredible cast of legendary musicians, as seen through the extraordinary story of America’s greatest unsung recording studio, Sound City. Being included in this group of artists is a true honor, and the Sundance Film Festival is the perfect place to premiere a film about craft, integrity, and passion for art. I am over the moon!”
The film was conceived by Grohl after purchasing the legendary Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year. The console, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment, having recorded such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns and Roses, Fear, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and countless other musical legends over the past 40 years.
Through interviews with the artists and producers that created decades of musical history at Sound City, the film showcases the amazing history of the studio, focuses on the albums recorded there that went on to change the world, then explores the human element of music in an age of technology, and features performances of new music created exclusively for the film.
Grohl’s personal connection to Sound City began with the 1991 recording of Nirvana’s breakthrough album, “Nevermind”. Selling over 30 million copies worldwide, “Nevermind” changed the entire musical landscape and forever altered the course of Dave Grohl’s life.
Roswell Films, a division of the Roswell Records label that releases Foo Fighters music, will distribute the film. Key personnel involved with the film include Producer/Director Dave Grohl; Editor Paul Crowder (Dogtown & Z Boys, Once In a Lifetime, Riding Giants); and Writer Mark Monroe (The Cove, Once In a Lifetime, The Tillman Story). The film is also being produced in conjunction with Jim Rota, John Ramsay, and Therapy studios.

Local Bands gave music fans a great reason to be thankful this Holiday weekend.
If we didn’t have enough to be thankful for this Holiday. Local bands and venues gave us another reason to be proud of our music scene.
The third installment of Louisville Palace’s “Faces in the Palace” featured ,The Ladybirds , Bodeco and The Junk Yard Dogs. The majestic theater greeted it’s largest crowd of the “Faces” series and they were not disappointed. Each band brought their A game to the event.
The LadyBirds began the night showcasing why they are clearly one of the best rockabilly bands in the business.
Bodeco playing their first performance in two years played an outstanding set and was clearly the favorite of the night. The band was on from the start, led by the amazing bass lines of Jimmy Brown.
The Junk Yard Dogs wrapped up the event with a strong set that gave the exhausted audience a second wind.
Congratulations to staff at The Louisville Place and WFPK particularly Sydney O’Brien for making this an exciting event for our local music scene.
Saturday’s show at Headliners Music Hall featured New Albany’s own , Houndmouth.
The young band (less than a year old) has made a lot of noise this past year securing a record contract with Rough Trade and gaining national attention at the SXSW Festival while touring with Britain’s “Dry The River”,
The venue was full of friends and family and sold out hours before the show.
This band has great stage presence and full of talent. They are yet to release their first album but it didn’t stop the audience from singing along. They started the show with songs from their EP released earlier this year and played many new songs some of which the had only played once live before.
This band has the talent to be stars in the years to come and it was a homecoming that they will not forget.
Nashville’s songwriter, guitarist, and singer Andrew Combs was also on the bill and played a beautiful set highlighting his strong voice and band. Combs just released his debut album, Worried Man, which American Songwriter has called “one of the year’s finest.”
It was a special night full of energy and excitement. A perfect ending to a weekend to be thankful for!
GRACE POTTER and the NOCTURNALS Coming To The Brown Theater

“It is rare to see a performer with such power over a crowd. She captured and held everyone’s attention all night with every lusty howl, every devastating smile, every sway of the hips…” – Charleston City Paper The Kentucky Center presents
For fans of: Janis Joplin, Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), Joss Stone, Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, Lucinda Williams… Grace Potter & the Nocturnals’ self-made 2005 debut album, Nothing but the Water, revealed a musically sophisticated young band inspired by the music of the late ’60s/early ’70s and fronted by a then-21-year-old dynamo whose nuanced singing, organ playing and songwriting belied her age. Now, seven years after hitting the radar, GPN take an exponential leap with the widescreen opus The Lion The Beast The Beat. With this musically combustible and conceptually dazzling work, the Vermont-based band forcefully takes its place alongside the best of its peers while building on the rich legacy of its inspirations. The Lion The Beast The Beat represents a rite of passage for a band that is knocking on the door of greatness. “This process was more painstaking than on any other record we’ve made; a complete labor of love and hate. I credit the Nocturnals for courageously jumping off that cliff with me,” Potter acknowledges. “We all took a risk and I hope that resonates when people hear the album.” Ticketing: Standard tickets are $25, $27.50, $45, reserved seating, fees apply.
