New Artists Announced!
Forecastle is pleased to announce more additions to this year’s lineup!

Reggae standouts Rebelution had the highest debut of their relatively young career this year with Peace of Mind. The massive triple album debuted at #13 on the Billboard 200, reaching #1 on the Reggae and Independent charts. They’ll bring the funk and provide all you Forecastle faithful with a serious dose of rocksteady.

Singer-songwriter Abigail Washburn is a master of the clawhammer banjo and pairs traditional folk elements with far-flung Eastern sounds. The results feel both strangely familiar yet unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. She’ll be performing with long time collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Kai Welch at Forecastle 2012.

Trixie Whitley combines heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics with towering vocals on her emotionally-charged songs. In 2011, as a member of producer Daniel Lanois’ Black Dub, she captivated audiences worldwide and is currently finishing up her solo debut. Don’t miss your chance to see her on the shores of Waterfront Park.

Headliners of our presenting CoSigns SXSW party, Cloud Nothings join the lineup along with Lower Dens who recently dropped their new album, Nootropics. While Grimes will no longer be joining us due to a scheduling conflict, Kelly Hogan, Keys N Krates and Cherub will be in attendance making some glorious noise!

We’re thrilled about our new additions and that we’ll be seeing them in just over two months! Stay tuned for more additions coming soon, plus kick off and after party details!

Built To Spill Summer Tour comes to Headliners Music Hall

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on May 9, 2012

For Immediate Release:

May 7, 2012 – (Burbank, CA) – Built to Spill have announced that they will extend their current summer tour into the fall with dates scheduled around the recording of a new studio album that will be released by Warner Bros. Records next year.

In addition to previously announced dates in June, including the Governors Ball Music Festival at Randall’s Island in New York, Built to Spill will also appear at the High Sierra Music Festival in July, followed by a series of headlining shows beginning at the end of August and continuing through September.

Built to Spill released their most recent album, There Is No Enemy, in October 2009. It was the band’s first album since 2006’s You In Reverse. Previous studio albums include 2001’s Ancient Melodies of the Future, 1999’s Keep It Like A Secret, and their major-label debut, 1997’s Perfect From Now On. In 2012 Built to Spill still remain an influential force in compositionally intelligent, lyrically thoughtful, melodic, guitar-centric rock music:

“Built To Spill CEO Doug Martsch is alt-rock’s Thomas Pynchon, holed up in a remote studio and issuing immaculate artworks when he damn well pleases. Their components are all about simple, melodic beauty, writ large – prog rock for pop purists.” – Rolling Stone

“Boise’s answer to Crazy Horse…they still flourish.” – Spin

“Built To Spill has been leading the resurgence of indie-guitar rock virtuoso for 20 years now. Doug Martsch conducts an orchestra of feedback like a lightning god bringing the storm. As ever, Martsch proves capable of anthropomorphizing a bent string and imbuing it with more emotion than many bands’ vocals and lyrics.” –Alternative Press

The Wallflowers Return With Highly Anticipated New Album For Release This Fall On Columbia Records

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on May 9, 2012

Select Tour Dates Announced to kick off in July!

Los Angeles, CA MAY 8, 2012—The Wallflowers have announced they are back in the studio and putting the finishing touches on a long-awaited new studio album that will be released by Columbia Records this fall. Currently recording in Nashville at Dan Auerbach’s (The Black Keys) Easy Eye Sound studio, the new album finds frontman Jakob Dylan joining original band members Greg Richling (bass) and Rami Jaffee (keyboards), with Wallflowers’ longtime guitarist Stuart Mathis and drummer Jack Irons (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam) rounding out the lineup. The album is being produced by Jay Joyce (Emmylou Harris, Cage the Elephant) and mixed by Rich Costey(Bruce Springsteen, The Shins).

The Wallflowers have taken their deep history and defining sound into new territory with the release of their upcoming album. The new record has the band doing what it does best while continuing to find new ground to cover.  “It’s been a while since we’ve felt this energized and creative. We haven’t changed our stripes so much as we’re continuing to redefine the animal,” said Jakob Dylan.

In addition to their new album, The Wallflowers have announced a series of tour dates that will kick off in select U.S. cities in July (please see dates below). On these dates the band expects to give fans a preview of the new material, which finds them rediscovering their sound while reflecting the varied influences they have accumulated over the years.

Formed in Los Angeles, The Wallflowers rose to fame with their 4x platinum album Bringing Down The Horse, which featured four top charting singles including “6th Avenue Heartache,” “One Headlight,” “The Difference,” and “Three Marlenas.” The two-time Grammy Award winners went on to sell over 7 million records worldwide with a series of critically acclaimed albums before going on hiatus in 2007. During the group’s break from recording, Jakob Dylan released two solo albums, which also garnered significant praise,  2008’s Seeing Things and 2010’s Women and Country.

Gov’t Mule: Balancing evocative songs and expressive improvisation, Gov’t Mule is a band rooted in both the personal and musical chemistry between its members. “It’s not one of those groups that can make a change overnight,” explains founding guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes. It is only after six months of rehearsing, jamming, and hanging out with bassist Jorgen Carlsson that he has been added to the band as their new permanent bass player, replacing Andy Hess, who joined in 2003
Dr. John: is universally celebrated as the living embodiment of the rich musical heritage exclusive to New Orleans. His very colorful musical career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played guitar on some of the greatest records to come out of the Crescent City, including recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex and Frankie Ford. During that time he also launched his solo career, developing the charismatic persona Dr. John The NIte Tripper. Adorned with voodoo charms and regalia, a legend was born with his breakthrough 1968 album Gris-gris, which established his unique blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots. Locked Down is his 2012 album that features The Black Keys’ guitarist and singer Dan Auerbach as guitarist, background vocalist and producer.
