Multi-platinum-selling guitar hero Slash is synonymous with rock n’ roll, and now the monster musician is affixing his signature top hat, shades to the digital airwaves with the launch of his own A.P.E. Radio station, “Slash FM.”  The channel announcement comes on West Hollywood’s official “Slash Day”—Thursday, August 26th—which will honor the legendary guitarist and L.A. icon at the third annual Sunset Strip Music Festival.  Throughout its limited-time run, beginning with its debut on Thursday, September 2nd, “Slash FM” will broadcast a wealth of exciting content, including selected playlists of some of the guitar god’s favorite songs, such as tracks by AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, The Beatles, Soundgarden and Metallica.  Of course, songs from Guns N’ Roses and Slash’s solo work will also be aired, and punctuated with behind-the-scenes stories told by Slash himself.

The August 26th tribute event at the House of Blues Sunset Strip will include speeches from Slash’s close friends, a presentation from the City of West Hollywood, and live music performances celebrating Slash and his contributions to the legacy of the city’s rich music scene.  Immediately following the Sunset Strip Music Festival, Slash will embark on a North American tour.

Slash’s A.P.E. station will be distributed across Clear Channel Radio’s “iheartradio” network, which includes hundreds of local radio websites; the popular iheartradio mobile app, which has been downloaded by nearly 9 million people; widgets; and www.slashonline.com.  Fans are encouraged to participate by emailing their suggestions to slashfm@aperadio.com.

About Slash:

Slash is widely considered one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time.  He has received countless accolades and awards including a 2007 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame alongside his idols Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix.   An original member of iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses, Slash helped the band create signature sounds like the guitar riff of #1 hit “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and “Welcome To The Jungle.”  The band dominated the 1980’s and 90’s music scene selling more than 100 million albums worldwide and ushered in a decade of hard charging rock music.  After leaving the band, Slash went on to critical acclaim in his personal project Slash’s Snakepit, and global success with supergroup Velvet Revolver.  He has been widely sought after by the biggest musicians of all time, performing with everyone from Michael Jackson to Stevie Wonder to Ray Charles.  Slash is one of the marquee playable characters in Guitar Hero III, has two signature Gibson guitars in his name, and authored his own top-selling biography Slash in 2007. Slash recently landed on the top of the charts with his first true solo album, SLASH, which debuted as #1 Rock Album and #3 overall on Billboard’s coveted Top 200 charts, in addition to going #1 in more than 13 countries. The album features an all-star roster of guest musicians including Ian Astbury, Chris Cornell, Rocco DeLuca, Fergie, Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy, Kid Rock, Lemmy Kilmister, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Duff McKagan, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother.  In addition to a long career filled with prestigious awards and accolades, Slash was just honored this week by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce who named him as an official selection for 2011 to receive a star on Hollywood’s iconic Walk of Fame.  A date for the ceremony has yet to be determined.

Slash will embark upon a tour of North America, treating audiences to a career-spanning Slash set list of songs from the new album, along with Slash classics from Guns N Roses like “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, “Paradise City” and numerous Velvet Revolver, and Slash’s Snakepit favorites.  Slash’s U.S. dates will again feature vocalist Myles Kennedy after receiving strong critical praise on the European run.  The US tour kicks off on August 28th in Los Angeles at the legendary Sunset Strip Music Festival, where Slash will be joined on stage by Fergie.
