The Swell Season at The Brown Theater

The Brown Theater hosted The Swell SeasonSaturday Evening. The unusual combination ofGlen Hansard (from the Irish band The Frames) and Marketa Inglova (a classically trained Czech pianist and vocalist) won an Academy Award in 2008 for the song “Falling Slowly” from the film “Once” in which they both starred in.

They entertained the audience of over 1000 to a two hour plus show mixing music from all three of their albums, highlighting the newest album”Strict Joy”

Hansard and Inglova alternated between the piano and acoustic guitar and occasionally shared center stage together. The duo mixed the perfectly intertwined voices in heavenly harmonies .

They were backed by an excellent band made up of members of the Frames and a Colm Mac Con Iomaire on violin was excellent.

The Swell Season finished with an old Irish wake song to close their set. “So fill to me the parting glass,” they sang, “Goodnight and joy be with you all.”

That seems to be the case, whenever The Swell Season comes to town.
