Here come The Mummies at Horseshoe Casino

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on February 21, 2011

Here Come The Mummies

Here Come the Mummies the Funk/R&B band, best known for their live performances, visited Horseshoe Casino IN.

The Mummies show, began with a grand entrance,  a drum line, marching in and around the crowd and on to the stage. The band had the audience in full frenzy from the beginning of their show. The funky band band consists of various professional musicians based in Nashville, Tenn. There are rumored to be several Grammy awards among the members, though this is difficult to verify, as identities are kept private. They are believed to be under contract to various record labels, hiding their identities so as to prevent contract disputes while performing.

A band blessed with great vocals, and features talented musicians including  a great horn section, and percussion.  Each song spotlighted the incredible abilities of  individual band members  playing many crowd favorites. Along with the powerful music, the band includes several humorous moments such as the cowbelt on “Funky Little Baby” , flag waving and a visit from a helmeted  superhero.

This band knows how to throw a party. They have a loyal fan base that comes prepared to participate, dance, sing and get funky. The Mummies provided an entertaining and groove filled performance played with perfection.  If you haven’t seen this band perform, I have provided a link for your enjoyment. Videos for here come the mummies

On April 12, Nikki Sixx will release the follow up to the 2007 New York Times Bestseller, The Heroin Diaries, followed on May 3 by a CD of the same name, THIS IS GONNA HURT with the band Sixx:A.M. featuring Sixx, James Michael and Dj Ashba.   Sixx:A.M.’s debut, the 2007 soundtrack to THE HEROIN DIARIES sold over 300,000 copies (the book sold more than 350,000) and featured the most played rock track of 2008, “Life Is Beautiful.”

THIS IS GONNA HURT is a continuation of the brutally honest look at life through the eye and now the camera lens of rock icon and radio host NIKKI SIXX.

As we share the first bits of THIS IS GONNA HURT, please find Nikki’s diary entry for today:

I was sitting here looking at my finished book today as I started another journal entry.  What a wild ride it has been exposing my nerve endings and at the same time maybe exposing some skeletons in society’s closet too…  Nikki Sixx

Jan 2011

Well, the book and album are finally done. They fit together like a nice little puzzle yet somehow feel like the pieces were cut out of flesh with a razorblade. What I find interesting is that as much as I want them to mirror each other, they both stand on their own. They influence each other as much as possible yet each is strong and independent, from the visual stimulation in the photography to the lyrical content in the songs. To say that this project has been overwhelming would be an understatement. But the one thing that keeps tugging at my curiosity is that if I find beauty in all these places that most deem “Freakish” and “Macabre” then why do I also, at times, seek out beauty in what society calls beautiful? Am I contradicting myself or am I able to actually look beneath the surface when others sometimes can’t? This is a good question. Make no mistake when I refer to “The lies of beautiful people” I mean what I say but I am also saying look beneath the skin. I do not and will not attack the exterior of anybody but my intention is to pull back the veil on your internal truth. We need not worry if we are black, white, amputated, burned, maimed, a fashion model, or even have the face of Hollywood’s latest leading man…  We are who we are… Either poisonous and evil or honest and willing… Willing to make a difference… I haven’t led the life of a saint nor do I intend on it now.  That’s not what this is about. There were some things that needed to be said…  Unbeknownst to me, they would spread across both a book and an album. I imagine that Sixx:A.M. and the book both stand to take a few shots in the jaw, a few bricks in the face.  I know, speaking for myself, James, and DJ, that we welcome the feedback.  Maybe, just maybe, everybody will take a hard, cold, eye opening look under the hood, so to speak as we have…  Here we go…

Ps.   This morning when I looked in the mirror and I saw my own reflection, I felt like I could see my past, my present and my future all in one glance.  I wonder when other people look at me what do they see and wonder what they see when they look at their own lives. I hope this book and album will redefine how people look at not only me, themselves and most importantly others.

PERFORMANCES AT BOTH SXSW 2011 AND ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL MIAMI

Moby and Mute are pleased to announce details of Destroyed, a new album and book of photography set for release on May 17, 2011. Destroyed the album will be available in CD, vinyl, and digital formats and will be included with the Destroyed book of photography.  Published by Damiani/D.A.P, the book is 128 pages and features 55 photographs taken by Moby all over the world.

To celebrate the new album and his ninth studio LP, Moby is making a free digital EP available featuring three songs from Destroyed. Additionally, Moby also directed three short films to accompany each track. Visit moby.com to download and view the videos.

Destroyed takes us behind the scenes on an international journey with Moby, introducing us to the strange and disconcerting life of touring that is often not exposed; the time spent isolated in anonymous, mundane spaces like hotel rooms, airports, and backstage waiting areas. These experiences are juxtaposed with moments and places of intense beauty in the world and the excitement and connection with audiences. From the absurdly empty to the absurdly full, Moby captures the universal situation that so many musicians and artists undergo living nomadic lives. The combination of the album and book of photography, created while touring, provides an intimate look at Moby’s world and his creative process.

Songs on Destroyed were written by Moby mostly late at night, in hotel rooms around the world when cities had gone to bed and the insomnia that worldwide travel can induce fueled his need to create. A soundtrack for empty cities at 2 A.M., Destroyed fluctuates with nocturnal feelings of anxious isolation and comfort in quiet solitude. The result is a 15-track collection that conflates the atmospheric and the disconcerting with the enveloping and beautiful – a record rich in the kind of melodies that are lodged in the brain by stealth rather than with a bludgeon.  Destroyed is an album that changes and evolves, exploring time, expectation, and ultimately the tension it creates.

Destroyed was produced by Moby and mixed by Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, M83) on old analog equipment and mixed on a 1972 Neve analog mixing desk from Abbey Road.  A cohesive body of work, Destroyed is to be listened to in its entirety and, preferably, as it was made; late at night when your city has gone to sleep.

Moby has been taking pictures as long as he’s been making music, or ever since he was nine years old when his uncle presented him with an A Nikon F camera.  To this day Moby carries a camera wherever he goes. “Touring is all contrasts and strangeness, and that’s what I’m trying to convey in these pictures.” The title and front cover of Destroyed, both album and book, is the product of Moby’s keen photographer eye. The eye-catching image depicts the final part of an LED security warning: Unattended luggage will be destroyed, which Moby snapped as it flashed up, one word at time, in a deserted hallway at New York’s La Guardia airport.

Events will be held in select cities to debut music and exhibit prints from Destroyed.  National Geographic will host the first event on May 9th called,  ‘Music on…Photography’, which is a National Geographic Music Live multi-media series featuring renowned personalities in the music world as they share their view of the planet from behind the camera lens. The event will be held in Washington D.C. at National Geographic Live

Clic Gallery in New York City will host “Destroyed: Photographs by Moby”, an exhibition that will run from May 12th through June 26th, featuring photos and multimedia work from Destroyed. On May 11th, the book will launch simultaneously with the exhibit opening and will include a book signing. The following night on May 12th at Brooklyn Museum, Moby will present and discuss his photographs, in addition to signing copies of Destroyed. Additional exhibitions and events will be scheduled in the U.S., including Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles in September, and throughout Europe this summer in conjunction with his concert tour.

Moby will appear at SXSW 2011 in Austin this March at several events to be announced. He’ll also DJ during the Ultra Music festival in Miami on March 27.

A fixture since the late 80’s New York house and hip-hop scenes, Moby has been releasing music ever since his first single, “Go” in 1991(listed as one of Rolling Stones best records of all time). To date, his records have sold over twenty million copies worldwide and he’s played well over three thousand concerts all over the world in his career. Moby has produced and remixed artists such as David Bowie, Metallica, the Beastie Boys, and Public Enemy, and his music has been used in hundreds of different films, including major motion pictures such as  ‘Heat’, ‘Any Given Sunday’, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, ‘The Beach’.  Additionally, “Extreme Ways” is the theme song for the Bourne Trilogy films.  More recently his music is featured in Paul Haggis’ ‘Next Three Days’ and this year’s Oscar nominated, multi-award winning documentary, ‘Waste Land’.
