MOBY MUSIC VIDEO CHALLENGE LAUNCHED

WITH SAATCHI & SAATCHI AND VIMEO

Moby announces the release of a new single, “The Day”, taken from his upcoming new studio album,Destroyed being released May 17th. Available now from all digital service providers, “The Day” is followed by the full remix bundle on May 10th, which includes the original album track and remixes from LifelikeBasto, Gesaffelstein, Eddie Thoneick and Funkerman.

“The Day” was written in a hotel room in Spain at dawn when I hadn’t slept. It was a beautiful hotel room, a beautiful perfect hotel room and it was six or seven in the morning. I wrote it on a acoustic guitar and recorded it on my phone, brought it home and re-recorded it with old broken down electronics that I have in my studio”.  – Moby

“The Day” was indirectly inspired by David Bowie and Brian Eno’s production which Moby believes is now part of his DNA; growing up, Moby had Low and Heroes spinning constantly on his turntable. One of the few tracks from Destroyed that Moby sings on, “The Day” is a deeply personal song about late night desperation and dark night of the soul feelings usually associated with some terrible addiction; these themes are woven throughout the journey that his new album takes us on.

The official music video for “The Day” will premiere next week. The video, directed by Evan Bernard (Moby, Beastie Boys, Green Day), takes place in a hospital and features the actress Heather Graham as a nurse and guardian angel.

In support of young filmmakers, Moby is partnering with Saatchi & Saatchi and Vimeo on an exciting new video challenge as part of The 21st Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2011 happening June 19th – 25th. The theme of this year’s New Directors’ Showcase is “Hello, Future” in which directors across the world are invited to visualize the concept of “Hello, Future” in the form of a standout music video inspired by one of the three tracks selected from Moby’s new album, Destroyed, which are “Be The One”, “The Day”, and “After”. The winner will be announced at this year’s Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase in Cannes on June 23rd as well as on the Vimeo website.

For entry guidelines and information on how to submit videos to the competition go to: www.moby.comor www.vimeo.com/saatchiandsaatchi. Closing date for submissions is May 9th 2011 at 11.59 GMT.

Also titled Destroyed and set for release on May 17th is a book of photography by Moby. The book takes us behind the scenes on an international journey with Moby, introducing us to the strange and disconcerting life of touring that is often not exposed; the time spent isolated in anonymous, mundane spaces like hotel rooms, airports, and backstage waiting areas. These experiences are juxtaposed with moments and places of intense beauty in the world and the excitement and connection with audiences. From the absurdly empty to the absurdly full, Moby captures the universal situation that so many musicians and artists undergo living nomadic lives. The combination of the album and book of photography, created while touring, provides an intimate look at Moby’s world and his creative process.

Tracklisting:

1. The Day – Album Version

2. The Day – Radio Edit

3. The Day – Gessaffelstein Remix

4. The Day – Lifelike Remix

5. The Day – Funkerman Remix

GOO GOO DOLLS CONFIRM TOUR DATES FOR SUMMER 201

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on April 12, 2011

John Rzeznik of The Goo Goo Dolls

GOO GOO DOLLS have extended their American tour with dates that will take the band across the U.S. through late August including cities that they have not played in some time.  The band’s current album, SOMETHING FOR THE REST OF US, continues to garner global critical praise:

“’Something For The Rest of Us’ flows with emotional rock anthems” – USA Today

“Anthemic rock really doesn’t come much better than that of the Goo Goo Dolls.  Twelve soaring radio anthems to make you smile” – KERRANG! (U.K.)

Wanee Festival Preview

Artist Spotlight: John Popper & The Duskray Troubadours

John Popper doesn’t know what came over him that one night last winter, although he has a pretty good idea.

“Something in me kicked in and I just floored it,” says the singer/harp slinger, referring to a brief, Beethoven-scored joy ride, that was the trip from his home to the recording studio in Santa Fe. “It was absolutely exhilarating. I felt free, because I was going to do something I loved, and just for me.”

That something was a month-long recording session in the mountains of New Mexico. The self-titled debut (due out March 1, 2011, through 429 Records) of John Popper and The Duskray Troubadours to be specific, a side project that’s more like a part-time band, a scrappy, roots-rock extension of Popper’s work in Blues Traveler.

Wanee is less than a week away….don’t miss John Popper and the rest of the 2011 lineup! Online ticket sales end April 11th!

UMPHREY’S MCGEE:

Since forming in the late ’90s, the musically muscular and relentlessly inventive Umphrey’s McGee has cultivated an impressive presence both live and in the studio. Lauded by critics and adored by fans, the band continues to draw in new listeners with their singular style: virtuoso playing and acrobatic tempo changes and rhythmic shifts complemented by dazzling song craft and composition, memorable hooks, anthemic guitar lines and rock solid rhythms.

Now in their second decade, Umphrey’s McGee continues to wow fans globally.  The band has performed at festivals such as U.S. festivals as Bonnaroo, ROTHBURY, and Lollapalooza, have toured Europe multiple times and performed Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival.

Umphrey’s McGee is also known for their innovative approach to distributing music and building community. With the recent unveiling of Umphrey’s McGee’s all-new Stew Art Series (aka, “S2”) – an interactive fan experience where audience members “conduct” the band’s live improvisations  – Umphrey’s McGee continue to offer their fiercely loyal fanbase the most innovative musical experiences available. Before their latest studio recording, Mantis, was released in January of last year, the group made the album available for pre-order in an interesting way. Fans were offered more free bonus content the more Mantis pre-orders were received; as the fans “unlocked” levels of content by getting more of their friends to pre-order the album. The idea was to give the fans incentive to help spread the word about the album, and to offer a totally unique music experience. As Umphrey’s McGee’s sound evolves with every passing show, the live concerts sold on their expansive music archive site UMLive.net continue to be in high demand by their hungry fan base.

Peter Gabriel New Blood North American Tour Dates Announced

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on March 31, 2011

“Tech aspects were incredible, especially sound.” — VARIETY

New York, NY (March 28, 2011) — Peter Gabriel announced today that following hugely successful shows last year in Los Angeles and New York, he will take his stunning concert experience to 12 North American cities with the New Blood tour beginning Friday, June 10 in Berkeley, CA.  After receiving astounding critical acclaim for the 2010 shows, Gabriel will perform classics from his deep catalogue including hits from his multiplatinum album “So“, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, all arranged with his New Blood Orchestra.  The songs will be arranged by long-time Gabriel collaborator John Metcalf and the New Blood Orchestra will be conducted by Ben Foster. The shows precede the highly anticipated album from Peter Gabriel with the New Blood Orchestra later this year, also featuring these classic hits in reinterpreted orchestral arrangements.

Peter Gabriel first came to international prominence with the success of Genesis, a band that he co-founded while still at school. Since leaving Genesis in 1975, his recording career has included seven studio albums, film soundtracks for ‘Birdy’, ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ and ‘Rabbit Proof Fence’ as well as live and compilation albums. His wider musical career has included multiple Grammy Awards, the creation of the Real World record label, and the creation of the now global WOMAD festival.

Peter Gabriel co-founded the human rights organization Witness.org in 1989 and in 2007 the Elders.org was launched by Nelson Mandela, which was founded by Peter Gabriel and Sir Richard Branson.  In 2006, Peter Gabriel was awarded the prestigious Man of Peace title by The Nobel Peace Laureates. He has also engaged in a wide variety of tech-based businesses throughout a variety of creative industries.

Tickets for The New Blood Tour go on sale beginning Monday, April 4th at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com.

Citi® cardmembers will also have access to presale tickets in select cities beginning Wednesday April 6th, 10am local time through Citi’s Private Pass® Program. For complete presale details visit http://www.citiprivatepass.com.

FOO FIGHTERS TO RELEASE “FOO FIGHTERS BACK AND FORTH” FILM

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on March 31, 2011

NEW ALBUM WASTING LIGHT IN STORES APRIL 12TH

TICKETING INFORMATION AT OFFICIAL SITE, WWW.FOOFIGHTERSFILM.COM

Back and Forth” chronicles the 16 year history of the Foo Fighters: from the band’s very first songs created as cassette demos Dave Grohl recorded during his tenure as Nirvana’s drummer, through its ascent to their Grammy-winning, multi-platinum, arena and stadium headlining status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

Produced by Nigel Sinclair (“No Direction Home: Bob Dylan”, “Amazing Journey the Story of the Who”, “The Last Play at Shea”) of Exclusive Media Group’s Spitfire Pictures, and produced and directed by Oscar(r) and Emmy(r) winner James Moll, “Back and Forth” culminates with the making of the band’s new album Wasting Light: a process in which the band pushed itself forward by going fully back to basics and recording in Grohl’s garage completely on analog tape. No computers, no software – just a band recording an album to tape in a garage. The new record also marks the Foos’ first full-length effort with legendary producer Butch Vig, with whom Grohl worked on Nirvana’s classic album Nevermind.

Back and Forth,” will be followed by a live 3D performance from the band, playing their new album Wasting Light front to back. Check out a trailer for “Back and Forth” to get a sneak peak. For ticketing info and release date on the movie, check out the band’s official site for the film, www.foofightersfilm.com. Also, fans can follow the original White Limo on Twitter and Tumblr, as it drives across country blasting the new record.  Wasting Light hits stores and online April 12th!
