McCartney Recovering After Virus Halts Tour
NEW YORK (AP) — Paul McCartney is on the mend after being treated for a virus that led him to cancel his tour in Japan.

McCartney received treatment at a hospital in Tokyo, publicist Perri Cohen said in a statement Thursday.

The former Beatle is expected to make a complete recovery and will be taking time to rest. McCartney cancelled his entire “Out There Japan Tour 2014” this week because of his illness.

McCartney was also scheduled to perform at a Seoul stadium on May 28. It would have been his first concert in South Korea.

McCartney, who turns 72 next month, “has been extremely moved by all the messages and well wishes he has received from fans all over the world,” the statement said.

The tour is scheduled to resume next month in the United States. McCartney will play a handful of shows starting June 14 in Lubbock, Texas.

ZZ Top to Play Iroquois Amphitheater July 29

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on May 13, 2014

AC Entertainment and Production Simple are pleased to announce that ZZ Top will be in Louisville for a performance at Iroquois Amphitheater on Tuesday, July 29. Tickets for this all ages show will go on sale to the general public Friday, May 16, at 10am. Reserved Seated tickets start at $59.50-$74.50. Tickets are available via http://www.IroquoisAmphitheater.com, by phone (877) 987-6487, or in-person at the Iroquois Amphitheater Box Office (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, M-F.)
Phone, internet & outlet orders subject to convenience fee.

ZZ TOP’s music is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful and 100% Texas American in derivation. The band’s support for the blues is unwavering both as interpreters of the music and preservers of its legacy. It was ZZ TOP that celebrated “founding father” Muddy Waters by turning a piece of scrap timber than had fallen from his sharecropper’s shack into a beautiful guitar, dubbed the “Muddywood.” This totem was sent on tour as a fundraising focus for The Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi, site of Robert Johnson’s famed “Crossroads” encounter with the devil. ZZ TOP’s support and link to the blues remains as rock solid as the music they continue to play. They have sold millions of records over the course of their career, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas, have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms and are true rock icons but, against all odds, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. They’re real and they’re surreal and they’re ZZ TOP.

JACK WHITE AND THIRD MAN RECORDS INTRODUCE THE LAZARETTO ULTRA LP

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on May 13, 2014

Over the past five years, Jack White & Third Man Records have brought to life many ideas that were new to the century-old vinyl format. So when it came time for the creative hive to discuss the vision for the pressing of Jack’s Lazaretto, Third Man were keenly aware of what it would take to produce a piece of wax worthy of the music it would contain… No single innovation would suffice. We needed to go big. We needed to go bold. We needed to press an ULTRA LP:

180 gram vinyl
2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM and 1 plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
Side A plays from the outside in
Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for “Just One Drink” depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
Both sides end with locked grooves
Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format
Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record
Absolutely zero compression used during recording, mixing and mastering
Different running order from the CD/digital version
Utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD/digital versions
Watch masterminds Jack White and Ben Blackwell discuss and demonstrate the ULTRA LP features: http://smarturl.it/LazarettoUltraLP

Both the Lazaretto ULTRA LP and the Vault version of the Lazaretto LP contain all ULTRA LP features. Both will also come with an MP3 download card. Pre-orders for the Lazaretto ULTRA LP begin today. Lazaretto will be officially released June 10 on Third Man Records/Columbia.

– New Album, Turn Blue, Out May 13 On Nonesuch Records, Streaming Now On iTunes –

– Duo Will Perform on Saturday Night Live May 10 “Fever” Music Video Premieres –

“…the best, most consistently gripping album the Keys have ever made…Turn Blue is as apocalyptic, in its way, as that Clash epic [London Calling]: loaded with risk, distress and payoff.” – Rolling Stone

The Black Keys will embark on an extensive North American tour this fall. Promoted exclusively by Live Nation, the tour begins Sept. 5 in Columbus and includes a stop in Louisville, KY at KFC Yum! Center on Wednesday, September 10.

Pre-sale tickets will be available beginning Tuesday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m. local time to all fans pre-ordering the album at http://www.theblackkeys.com and to Citi® cardmembers in the U.S. through Citi’s Private Pass® Program (www.citiprivatepass.com).

Tickets go on-sale to the general public starting Friday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. local time at Livenation.com, Ticketmaster.com, the KFC Yum! Center box office and all Ticketmaster locations. Charge by phone at 1.800.745.3000.

The tour supports the duo’s highly anticipated new album, Turn Blue, which will be released May 13 on Nonesuch Records and is now streaming exclusively on iTunes. In celebration of the release, the band will return to Saturday Night Live for their third musical guest appearance this Saturday, May 10.

Produced by Danger Mouse, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, Turn Blue comprises 11 new tracks, including the first single, “Fever,” which is currently #1 on AAA radio for the fourth straight week and #2 on Alternative radio. Additionally, the album’s title track recently premiered on Carney’s SiriusXM show, Serious Boredom, and can be heard here. Both songs are available as free instant downloads with album preorders at theblackkeys.com/turnblue; the LP, CD or digital version may also be ordered as part of ticket and T-shirt bundles at the band’s site. The songs are also on sale—alone or as free instant downloads with album preorders—on iTunes.

Turn Blue was recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles during the summer of 2013 with additional recording done at the Key Club in Benton Harbor, MI and Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville in early 2014. Of the new album, the band says Turn Blue could refer to:

A: Suffocation

B: Sadness

C: Numbness from extreme cold
D: A Cleveland late night TV host from the 1960s named Ghoulardi

E: All of the above

Carney also adds, “We are always trying to push ourselves when we make a record—not repeat our previous work but not abandon it either. On this record, we let the songs breathe and explored moods, textures and sounds. We’re excited for the world to hear Turn Blue.”

This is the eighth full-length album from the duo and follows 2011’s critically and commercially acclaimed El Camino, which is now certified RIAA Platinum. Internationally, El Camino is Gold in Belgium, Spain, Italy and Holland; Platinum in Ireland, France and the U.K.; and double Platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The record also resulted in three awards at the 55th annual Grammy Awards—Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. The band now has a total of six Grammy Awards including three in 2010 for their breakout, RIAA Platinum album, Brothers.
