Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Perform With The Del McCoury Band on “Late Show With David Letterman”
Group Featured in Danny Clinch Documentary
Louisiana Fairytale With My Morning Jacket
The iconic, New Orleans-based Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be taking over New York on July 20th, where they will perform on “Late Show With David Letterman” before their show at City Winery that night. Additionally, they will be stopping by WNYC’s Greene Space and WXPN’s World Cafe that day. Please let us know if you’re interested in attending the City Winery show and click HERE for tickets to the Greene Space performance.
Pres Hall will be joined by the Grammy-winning bluegrass outfit The Del McCoury band for these performances. The two groups recently joined forces to record their collaborative full-length American Legacies, which was released earlier this year. In addition to being a showcase for their incredible musicianship, the album is a fascinating juxtaposition of traditional New Orleans Jazz and Bluegrass, made by true legends who are both celebrating 50 years in their respective genres.
Pres Hall has dedicated itself to keeping the traditions of New Orleans jazz alive, both in their hometown and on tour around the world. Along the way, they have brought in collaborators of all musical stripes to play, honor, and reinterpret America’s first true art form.
One of those bands is My Morning Jacket, who have performed and toured with Pres Hall numerous times over the past several years. This ongoing partnership was the subject of the documentary Louisiana Fairytale, which was directed by Danny Clinch. The film screened at SXSW and Bonnaroo, and can be viewed next at The Ogden Museum of Art in New Orleans on July 23rd as well as at the New Orleans film festival October 14th – 20th.
Pres Hall put on multiple soulful and triumphant performances at Bonnaroo last month, leading the New York Times to call them the “binding glue” of this year’s festival. They led a parade to a surprise show by Portugal the Man, performed with The Del McCoury Band, and appeared during My Morning Jacket’s set. Pres Hall have also played and recorded with artists like Tom Waits, Pete Seeger, Ani DiFranco and Andrew Bird. Through these collaboration and others, they are both the face of the genre to fans across the globe and a bridge that connects traditional NOLA jazz to other styles of music. The illustrious group have thus earned a reputation as ambassadors of the music, as well as the overall spirit of New Orleans.
