Germantown Presented by Jägermeister
The history of the Germans in Louisville began in 1787. In that year, a man named Kaye built the first brick house in Louisville, Kentucky. The Blankenbaker, Bruner, and Funk families came to the Louisville region following the American Revolutionary War, and in 1797 they founded the town Brunerstown, which would later become Jeffersontown, Kentucky. Further early immigration of Germans took place as they slowly followed the Ohio River after arriving in the United States, and many settled in Louisville.

In the 21st century, one third of Louisville’s population claims German ancestry. The Kentuckiana German Heritage Society was started in 1991 to preserve Louisville’s German heritage. The German-American Club Gesangverein, which was founded in 1878, also remains. Since 1977, Louisville has maintained a relationship with Mainz, Germany, with the two cities officially town twinning in 1994. Every October, a two-day Oktoberfest is celebrated.

Jägermeister is proud to present GERMANTOWN, which will feature celebrity Jäger Chef and restaurant owner Chris Santos, who will be judging the best gourmet man food items. Don’t miss some of the other activities in Germantown, which features the best bartenders in Louisville, Jäger Challenges, Jäger mixology, shots, food, signings and more!

LOUISVILLE, KY – (June 9) - Paul McCartney has confirmed that he will, however reluctantly, heed medical advice to rest up just a bit longer to fully recuperate from the virus that forced the postponement of his recent dates in Japan and Korea.

I’m sorry but it’s going to be a few more weeks before we get rocking in America again. I’m feeling great but taking my docs’ advice to take it easy for just a few more days. Look forward to seeing you all soon.”—Paul McCartney

The Out There world tour will now resume July 5 in Albany, NY, and the June 14-26 shows in Lubbock, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville and Louisville have been rescheduled to October.

Tickets for the June 26th show at KFC Yum! Center will been honored for the new date of Tuesday, October 28th.

The Out There tour, as always, features music from the most beloved catalog in popular music, as Paul performs songs spanning his entire career–as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle. The set list will also include material from Paul’s most recent studio album

NEW, a global hit upon its release last year. The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music are relived; music which for many has shaped the very soundtrack of their lives. The last decade has seen Paul and his band perform in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people, and even broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul’s band of the last 10+ years–Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums)–the show never disappoints. The tour also uses state of the art technology and production to ensure the entire audience has the best possible experience. With massive screens, lasers, fireworks, unique video content and, of course, the best songs in the world, a Paul McCartney show is so much more than just an ordinary concert. Paul’s shows attract a multi generational audience from different backgrounds all brought together by his music.

Louisville still on Tap for McCartney despite recent Illness

McCartney Recovering After Virus Halts Tour
NEW YORK (AP) — Paul McCartney is on the mend after being treated for a virus that led him to cancel his tour in Japan.

McCartney received treatment at a hospital in Tokyo, publicist Perri Cohen said in a statement Thursday.

The former Beatle is expected to make a complete recovery and will be taking time to rest. McCartney cancelled his entire “Out There Japan Tour 2014″ this week because of his illness.

McCartney was also scheduled to perform at a Seoul stadium on May 28. It would have been his first concert in South Korea.

McCartney, who turns 72 next month, “has been extremely moved by all the messages and well wishes he has received from fans all over the world,” the statement said.

The tour is scheduled to resume next month in the United States. McCartney will play a handful of shows starting June 14 in Lubbock, Texas.

ZZ Top to Play Iroquois Amphitheater July 29

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on May 13, 2014

AC Entertainment and Production Simple are pleased to announce that ZZ Top will be in Louisville for a performance at Iroquois Amphitheater on Tuesday, July 29. Tickets for this all ages show will go on sale to the general public Friday, May 16, at 10am. Reserved Seated tickets start at $59.50-$74.50. Tickets are available via, by phone (877) 987-6487, or in-person at the Iroquois Amphitheater Box Office (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, M-F.)
Phone, internet & outlet orders subject to convenience fee.

ZZ TOP’s music is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful and 100% Texas American in derivation. The band’s support for the blues is unwavering both as interpreters of the music and preservers of its legacy. It was ZZ TOP that celebrated “founding father” Muddy Waters by turning a piece of scrap timber than had fallen from his sharecropper’s shack into a beautiful guitar, dubbed the “Muddywood.” This totem was sent on tour as a fundraising focus for The Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi, site of Robert Johnson’s famed “Crossroads” encounter with the devil. ZZ TOP’s support and link to the blues remains as rock solid as the music they continue to play. They have sold millions of records over the course of their career, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas, have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms and are true rock icons but, against all odds, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. They’re real and they’re surreal and they’re ZZ TOP.

Over the past five years, Jack White & Third Man Records have brought to life many ideas that were new to the century-old vinyl format. So when it came time for the creative hive to discuss the vision for the pressing of Jack’s Lazaretto, Third Man were keenly aware of what it would take to produce a piece of wax worthy of the music it would contain… No single innovation would suffice. We needed to go big. We needed to go bold. We needed to press an ULTRA LP:

180 gram vinyl
2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM and 1 plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
Side A plays from the outside in
Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for “Just One Drink” depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
Both sides end with locked grooves
Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format
Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record
Absolutely zero compression used during recording, mixing and mastering
Different running order from the CD/digital version
Utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD/digital versions
Watch masterminds Jack White and Ben Blackwell discuss and demonstrate the ULTRA LP features:

Both the Lazaretto ULTRA LP and the Vault version of the Lazaretto LP contain all ULTRA LP features. Both will also come with an MP3 download card. Pre-orders for the Lazaretto ULTRA LP begin today. Lazaretto will be officially released June 10 on Third Man Records/Columbia.

Pre-Order Lazaretto now:

Jack White will also be hitting the road this summer for a slew of tour dates across North America and Europe. See a full list of tour dates below and go to for further information.

In celebration of the release, the band will return to Saturday Night Live for their third musical guest appearance this Saturday, May 10.

Produced by Danger Mouse, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, Turn Blue comprises 11 new tracks, including the first single, “Fever,” which is currently #1 on AAA radio for the fourth straight week and #2 on Alternative radio. Additionally, the album’s title track recently premiered on Carney’s SiriusXM show, Serious Boredom, and can be heard here. Turn Blue was recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles during the summer of 2013 with additional recording done at the Key Club in Benton Harbor, MI and Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville in early 2014. Of the new album, the band says Turn Blue could refer to:

A: Suffocation

C: Numbness from extreme cold
D: A Cleveland late night TV host from the 1960s named Ghoulardi

E: All of the above

Carney also adds, “We are always trying to push ourselves when we make a record—not repeat our previous work but not abandon it either. On this record, we let the songs breathe and explored moods, textures and sounds. We’re excited for the world to hear Turn Blue.”

This is the eighth full-length album from the duo and follows 2011’s critically and commercially acclaimed El Camino, which is now certified RIAA Platinum. Internationally, El Camino is Gold in Belgium, Spain, Italy and Holland; Platinum in Ireland, France and the U.K.; and double Platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The record also resulted in three awards at the 55th annual Grammy Awards—Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. The band now has a total of six Grammy Awards including three in 2010 for their breakout, RIAA Platinum album, Brothers.

Posted in Entertainment by sceneandheardblog on April 30, 2014

Mayor Jeff M. Gahan and the City of New Albany are pleased to announce the June lineup for The Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series. Each show will be held on Friday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the summer in historic downtown New Albany’s Bicentennial Park, located at the corner of Spring Street and Pearl Street. These events are free and open to music lovers of all ages!

May 30th : Billy Goat Strut Review It’s been an unpredictable journey since our founding Billy Goat (Mark Hamilton) took a trip to New Orleans and quickly became intoxicated with the city’s rich musical culture and tradition. He brought us together on a cold and rainy Kentucky autumn day in 2011 and shared his vision of forming an ensemble of all-star players for an old-time project. Our result is a fun and exciting new genre of music that travels a centuries-old path down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, through the bourbon trail, from Derby City to the Chocolate City and back. Ladies and Gentlemen: THIS IS BOURBON Jazz

June  6th : Johnson City’s The Barefoot Movement have been making waves in the folk world since the release of their 2011 debut album Footwork. From the foot-tapping instrumental “Sheepherder” to the emotional ballad “Thunder” and everything in between, these roots music newcomers have assembled quite the collection here, both old songs and new, offering something for everyone.

June 13th : James Wallace and The Naked Light  has lately divided his time between Richmond and Nashville, but his most recent album with his band the Naked Light, More Strange News From Another Star, shows that Wallace is a traveler with no fixed place in the musical universe. You can call it Indie Gospel Folk Hop Rock, or you can suspend your expectations and the tendency to aurally fingerprint everything you hear and soak in the diverse soundscape that James Wallace inhabits like a childhood home.

June 20th : Machines Are People Too is a Dream-Pop band formed in Chattanooga,TN in the sweaty summer months of ’09 when Brian began writing vocals over JJ Clark’s well-produced beats. The two began writing together and performing as Machines Are People Too at monthly dance parties with two keyboards, a laptop, and a microphone. After a year of dancing and playing with DJs, the duo was ready to expand their band and overall sound. The band’s eclectic sound and progressive music creates a live show that leaves no toes untapped and will leave you with no other choice but to let go and dance.

June 27th : Appalatin foot-stomping, hip-swinging sounds organically unite Appalachian folk and high-energy Latin music. The name, Appalatin, reflects the unexpected meeting in Louisville, KY of Kentucky-raised musicians and masterful Latin émigrés from Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. Their all-acoustic performances of traditional stings of guitar, mandolin, upright bass, and charango, indigenous Andean flutes, hand percussion, harmonica and vocal harmonies have brought joy and happiness to listeners of all ages.
